In 1827, at the beginning of New York City's evolution as the financial center of the world, the genesis of what would become a world renowned culinary institution, Delmonico's Restaurant, was set. A small shop selling classically prepared pastries, fine coffee and chocolate, bonbons, wines and liquors as well as Havana cigars was operated by the Delmonico brothers. Its success led them to purchase a triangular plot of land at the intersection of Beaver, William and South William Streets where, in 1837, they opened the first fine dining restaurant in the country. Today, with a mission to make Delmonico's Wall Street's premiere fine dining Restaurant, the 56 Beaver Street location has been renovated to assume the opulence of its early years. Our welcoming portico remains supported by the original Pompeian pillars, our private dining rooms welcome the discreet, the wine cellar is filled to the rafters, and the cuisine, is, as promised in 1837, the finest the city has to offer.

A hallmark of Bergdorf’s merchandising are its celebrated, often-extravagant window displays, which customarily stop traffic and lure in the world’s most discriminating shoppers. Bergdorf’s consists of eight floors of elegant women’s couture and designer collections, while across Fifth Avenue, the men’s collection takes up three floors. A salon, restaurant and café are also on premises when it’s time to relax and recharge.

The retailer has opened a full complement of stores in the New York metro area, including a sleek, modern outpost in Lincoln Square at 66th Street and Broadway on the Upper West Side. When you add it all up, it’s not difficult to see why Century 21 is a celebrity favorite and New York’s number-one Zagat-rated off-price store.
All aboard for a truly grand New York adventure! Today’s Grand Central Terminal (the third built on the same site) was constructed in 1913 as a glorious monument to art and travel. Since the building's top-to-bottom restoration, begun in the 1980s, Grand Central has once again assumed its rightful place as one of New York’s most impressive public spaces. The building is a magnet for visitors and locals alike, drawn by its majestic architecture, fine stores, restaurants and a full calendar of free arts events in Vanderbilt Hall. Grand Central has 68 retail shops, from Banana Republic and Jo Malone to L’Occitane—plus specialty foods from Junior’s Bakery, Taste NY and more. When it comes to dining, there’s a trainload of choices, including fine restaurants and cocktail lounges like Michael Jordan’s The Steak House N.Y.C., along with more casual dining options on the lower level. And be sure to visit Grand Central Market, which serves up a fresh array of prepared foods by vendors such as Eli Zabar’s Farm to Table and Murray’s Cheese. Even if you never step foot on a train here, you’ll want to make Grand Central one of your top destinations.
No visit to New York would be complete without a visit to Lord & Taylor’s gorgeous flagship store, which presides over Fifth Avenue between 38th and 39th Streets. This elegant emporium features designer clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories for women, men and kids—an inventory that has something for everyone, at virtually every price range. Now a national chain, Lord & Taylor got its start in New York in 1826, and its Fifth Avenue store (circa 1914) has been named a New York City landmark. Both native New Yorkers and visitors flock to the store for its always-fresh inventory of popular brands like Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren and Kate Spade, in addition in-store boutiques and Lord & Taylor’s own dazzling line of jewelry. If you’re looking for top-quality essentials—from day-to-evening dresses to winter coats—in a relaxed environment with helpful, yet unobtrusive sales people, make sure Lord & Taylor is on your itinerary. And if you happen to be in the neighborhood between mid-November and Christmas, you won’t want to miss the store’s magical holiday windows.
It’s quite possible that no other store is more closely identified with New York City than Macy’s Herald Square. As the world’s largest department store and sponsor of the time-honored annual tradition known as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, R. H. Macy & Co. has no equal. What started as a small New York dry goods store has evolved into a far-flung retailing empire, serving customers through approximately 800 stores in virtually every major geographic market in the U.S. Located at 34th Street and Broadway (a short taxi or bus ride from the Javits Center), Macy’s Herald Square recently underwent a major upgrade and expansion, and now boasts a whopping 1.1 million square feet of retail space that features a full-service trattoria and luxury shops from Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Burberry. Stocked with everything from cosmetics and fragrance, to haute couture and handbags, fine luggage and jewelry, Macy’s ten floors attract countless tourists and locals who pass through its revolving doors every day. Whatever your plans in the city, don’t miss this quintessential New York shopping experience!
Imagine a shoe salon so incredible it needed its own zip code! It could only happen at a store like Saks Fifth Avenue. Even though the store is a national presence, Saks’ huge flagship store remains an oasis of elegance in the heart of midtown, located directly across the street from Rockefeller Center on Fifth Avenue from 49th to 50th Streets. Saks is justly famous during the holiday season for its whimsical window displays and dazzling light show (complete with sound and music) projected on its Fifth Avenue façade. The nine of floors of this sublime luxury department store occupy a full city block and beckon with a wide selection of high-end clothing and accessories by the likes of Louis Vuitton and Chanel. The first floor overflows with an array of boutiques featuring trend-setting fragrances, cosmetics and other beauty products, while the remaining floors sell fine clothing, footwear, designer handbags, bedding, housewares and much more. Whether you’re just browsing or in serious shopping mode, once you step through the doors of Saks Fifth Avenue, you’re in for an “only in New York” treat.

It was one of Carrie Bradshaw’s favorite haunts in Sex and the City. And it is internationally recognized as one of the grand dames in the pantheon of New York department stores: Bergdorf Goodman. The very name evokes the epitome of Manhattan glamour. Perched on the site of the Vanderbilt Mansion at the corner of Fifth Avenue and 58th Street, the stately Art Deco flagship store is the only Bergdorf store in existence—cultivating an air of exclusivity that extends to the store’s bespoke service and high-end designer fashions and accessories, which bear labels from vaunted names like Gucci and Prada.

And judging by the enthusiastic, sharp-dressed crowds that keep the place humming, especially on weekend nights, Anfora has struck a chord with neighborhood wine aficionados and foodies alike. The attractive décor combines a rustic, yet modern aesthetic, evidenced by sleekly futuristic chandeliers and tufted leather banquettes—and Old World touches like exposed brick. Available for private events for up to 65 people, Anfora has all the ingredients for a memorable evening, in a classic New York setting.
