Energy

Since 2014, we have decreased our energy consumption by 26% through the installation of the largest green roof in New York State, energy efficient HVAC units and an improved thermal envelope. In 2020, we completed the construction of a 13 MW microgrid that acts as our central plant, equipped with a state-of-the-art power management system. As part of our resiliency program, three diesel generators allow the facility to be off grid for up to six consecutive days if needed.

1.61 MW of solar PV combined with 3.5 MW of battery energy storage will provide at least 10% of our energy consumption from a renewable source. These are just a few examples of how the Javits Center is leading from the front to help meet the targets outlined by New York State’s Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.
